Saturday, December 1

On December 1, the second day in Paris.
Early morning, we used the Metro subway from the hotel in the suburbs to the center of Paris. Then to Palace of Versailles on the sightseeing bus for 30 minutes.
We could enjoy this spot relaxed in the morning. Concerning the bus trouble afterward, I mentioned before.
I would like to say our couple enjoyed the free time in the afternoon, .....

After the elaborate art appreciation in Orsay Museum for about 3 hours and a half, we were lost on the way to Champs Elysees. This kind of happenings written later have occured to us during several other overseas travels, but all's well that ends well.

The pictures taken indiscriminately on the last day in Paris are as follows.

Port de la Villette, the station in the suburbs
Leaving Orsay Museum at 5:00 pm and making it to Place de la Concorde, we got into trouble.
We were then going to walk along Champs Elysees, but why? We lost our way without a satisfactory map for nearly one hour, when suddenly I noticed we were in front of Printemps Department Store.

It was at the beginning of Christmas mode on the first weekend of December. So the street around Printemps was crowded unusually.
We entered it and had a window shopping from the 4th floor down and down. Surely so crowded in there, too.

At about 7:00 pm on the way back to the hotel
Metro Station "Pyramides" next to the Opera Theater

After passing the huge crowd, another trouble was waiting.
We can just follow the morning route back to the hotel. From here, walk along the Opera street for 10 minutes with our back to the Opera House, then get on the line 17 at Pyramides Station of Metro. The Opera House is a target.

I don't know why, but the Opera street cannot be found anywhere. It is now over 6:00 pm. The dark walking road is crowded, and the roadway is also jammed with noisy horns. I was about at a loss being shot by Emiko's concerned eyes.
At a signal, I talked to some classy middle-aged couple.
"Excusez-moi. Can you understand my English?"
The gentleman answered, "Surely. You have some trouble, aren't you?"
"Yes, where is Avenue de l'Opera?"
He smiled at me and nodded with his hand on my shoulder. Then the couple led us to the street.
I shook hands with them for their kindness, and thought I had to change my preconceptions that French people were putting on airs.

Another old man was also kind at a platform of Metro.
When I was wondering which platform was for Port de la Villet, he came and asked me. I told him about my worry in English, he said, "Not here, you have to go to the other side." Thanks to him I got to the other side platform, and saw him waving his hand smiling.

Some middle-aged lady (Arab?) gave up a seat for Emiko in Metro.

The last dinner of this French travel was at the French reataurant of the hotel's pride that the guide recommended.
Emiko tasted wine a little and for myself a bit of cognac. Emiko enjoyed escargot dish and myself steak dish.
