1-Year Study Abroad, 1969-70
Penn State Univ. in the US
Penn State Campus

From June 1969 to May 1970, during the one year from my age 29 to 30, I studied abroad at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) in the United States on assignment from Daido Steel Co., Ltd.

Penn State is a comprehensive university with 40,000 students located in the city State College in central Pennsylvania, USA.

In this square, I am going to place the focus on 3 subjects.
1. Letter exchange with the staffs of the head office of Daido Steel in Japan.
2. The diary of the latter part during my stay at Penn State. Unfortunately the first half was lost in my carelessness.
3. Photo albums during the stay.

26-Day Road Trip
with Two Friends

During the summer breaks in my studies, I took a 26-day cross-country road trip across the United States with two friends from summer to fall 1969 (August 31 - September 25, 1969).
Travel diary and photo collection from that trip.

We traveled in a 1960 Ford Mustang loaded with a tent and cooking gear.
Distance traveled: 14,105 km
Gasoline consumed: 1,707 liters

An old trunk was found deep inside the closet. Now, in the year 2000, it's filled to the brim with nostalgic relics from thirty years ago (1969-70), during my study abroad at Penn State Univ. in the US. Mostly, it contains a pile of slightly soiled correspondence and numerous slides stained with mold.
It seemed a shame to throw them away. I decided to preserve them on my homepage.
