October 9

We stayed two nights at Belle View Hotel by the lakes.
In the second morning, we walked just after the dawn. Down the slope for a couple of minutes, a small lake appeared and the yellow leaves were beginning to bloom in the woods. I took a deep breath of fresh air. A little cold but refreshing. Birds began singing here and there .

Breakfast was perfect here, too, with excellent ham and sausage. Gorgeous but as usual here during the travel.

This wide National Park is located 110 km south from Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, which I do not think is a good explanation.
The country Croatia spreads sideways bordering on Slovenia, Hungary and Selvia on the north. It faces the Adriatic Sea on the west and extends like the tail of a horse to the south. The east side of the tail is Bosnia-Herzegovina. This Plitvice National Park lies at the east part near the root of the tail, and so, the one side is just the country border with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

We enjoyed the lakes and various falls staying in this hotel.

We, tour members, left the hotel at 8:15 a.m., and went on a hike around the several lakes until lunch at 12:30.

Needless to say, full of lakes. It looks like a small Lake District on the north of England, the UK. The surface viewed from the lakeside is as emerald-green and dark-blue as the Adriatic Sea. Small fishes are swimming here and there under the water.
Many falls of various shapes. Wooden roads are built over the wetlands, and the mountain path has considerable ups and downs. We were satisfied a lot with the breath-taking views all over forgetting any fatigue.

Yellow leaves are going to cover the lakes and red leaves are adding another color like decorated with embroidery. A little similar to the views in New England, the US, but the past days, when I had driven on a local road like the tunnel of yellow leaves in autumn. Such views ran through my mind unintentionally.

Not satisfied with this walking, our couple went on another hike during free time in the afternoon.
Though we followed a different route in the morning, we had almost no trouble thanks to the signs, getting captivated by a variety of different landscapes unfolding in succession.
Clean air in the autumn sky and the sounds of birds singing, ..... A little bit colder than the previous day, but the freshness was no more than now.
Other tourists and hikers went past us or overtook us. I told them "Dobar dan" (How are you?) and each of them answered with various greeting words.

Over the planned time a bit, we arrived at the hotel in the evening at 5:30.

This scenic spot is said to consist of 16 lakes and more than 90 falls. There are so many sightseeing routes according to each hiker's purpose. The boat service for a shortcut and the electric bus service, too. We made use of both.

It was designated as the National Park in 1949, and registered on UNESCO's World Natural Heritage List in 1979.
In spite of the natural scenery for us in a trance, it was once listed in the list of "World Heritage in Danger" due to the Croatian War of Independence. Happily it is now not what it used to be.

It was reported at night that Mr Obama, the President of the US, was nominated as the winner of Nobel Peace Prize. In the result, this news was the main topic on TV from the night to the next day.
Mr Obama seemed to be confused at first saying "I am not deserved....", but had a statement to accept it. The programs were mostly pros and cons about this matter in English. I was happy to understand them in my own way.

Another news at the same night. The conference between Mr Hatoyama, Japanese Prime Minister, and the President of Korea was reported in a short time. In the problem with North Korea, the reporter's comment "..... so little, so far ....." was stuck in my head.
